Welcome to the Spring term!
We have lots of fun and exciting lessons planned for this term. Our main themes will be: ‘Significant People’ and ‘Trains, Planes and Automobiles’.
To support the children’s learning in class, homework is set each Wednesday and should be completed by the following Monday. We will check on Spelling Shed to ensure the relevant tasks have been completed. We have also put together a grid of optional, additional homework tasks that the children can complete. This will have been emailed to you but can also be found under the ‘Year 2 documents page’ on the school website.
Children are given the opportunity to change their reading books daily and we try to encourage them to become more independent and put their book in the changing box when they would like a new book. We remind the children each day, but if you feel that your child is not changing their book when they should be doing, please let us know and we will offer them more support. Please, please read with your child as often as possible. Enjoy sharing books together and visiting the library. We cannot stress enough the importance of your child being a confident reader. It has an impact on the quality of their writing and their ability to read and understand maths questions.
PE takes place on Tuesdays and Thursdays, so please make sure your child has a complete PE kit in school on those days. One of our sessions is outside, so trainers are necessary. We are trying to encourage the children to become more independent and will be rewarding them with raffle tickets for tying their own shoelaces and ties after each PE lesson, so please help them to practice.
The children do have access to the water fountain throughout the day but bringing a water bottle into school means they do not have to leave the classroom.
Please ensure your child is wearing the correct school uniform. Earrings and trainers are not part of our school uniform and should not be worn to school.
It is important to us that we work together as a partnership to develop each child, so if you have any concerns at all, please do not hesitate to come and speak to us.
Many thanks for your continued support,
Mrs McBride, Mrs Vernon and Mrs Nixon
