Welcome to Year 2!
We are looking forward to the year ahead with your child, and our aim is to ensure that they are happy and successful, whilst working in an exciting, hardworking, stimulating and challenging environment.
To support the children’s learning in class, we will be sending homework home each Wednesday and expect it to be completed and handed back on Monday mornings. Homework will consist of spelling, literacy, grammar and punctuation and maths.
We will be offering your child the opportunity to change their reading books daily and we will be trying to encourage them to become more independent and put their book in the changing box when they would like a new book. We will remind the children each day, but if you feel that your child is not changing their book when they should be doing, please let us know and we will offer them more support. Please, please read with your child as often as possible. Enjoy sharing books together and visiting the library. We cannot stress enough the importance of your child being a confident reader. It has an impact on the quality of their writing and their ability to read and understand maths questions.
PE will take place twice a week, so please make sure your child has a complete PE kit in school on those days. One of our sessions will be outside, so trainers will be necessary. We are trying to encourage the children to become more independent and will be rewarding them with 5 dojos for tying their own shoe laces and ties after each PE lesson, so any practice you can do over summer would be greatly appreciated.
Please send a water bottle in to school every day. There will also be access to the water fountain throughout the day.
Please ensure your child is wearing the correct school uniform. Earrings and trainers are not part of our school uniform and should not be worn to school.
It is important to us that we work together as a partnership to develop each child, so if you have any concerns at all, please do not hesitate to come and speak to us.
Many thanks for your continued support,
Mrs McBride, Mrs Bond, Mrs Nixon and Mrs Almond
