May is a very special time in the Catholic calendar as it marks the month of Mary. TEAM Benedict decided to spend some of their lunch times encouraging the children from Reception to year 6 to reflect with them and pray the Rosary. It was so lovely to see so many children taking part and being able to use our beautiful outdoor areas when the weather would allow.
Stations of the Cross
TEAM Benedict have each designed a different Station of the Cross to display around the school.
In assemble all the children were asked to take some time out during Lent to prepare their hearts to meet Jesus at Easter and spend this time trying to become a better version of themselves.
TEAM Benedict teaching the juniors the Rosary during the month of October.
TEAM Benedict is made up of 8 students from years 5 and 6 who come together to serve the St. Benedict’s community. The TEAM in TEAM Benedict stands for Trust, Encourage and Mentor. They wear purple jumpers so that they are easily recognisable on the playground if anyone should need their help. The students attend meetings where they discuss how best to serve the school.
Here are a few of the things that they did last year:-
Created posters in October and May advertising the Rosary prayer sessions they hold. These Rosary prayer sessions are always very well attended and we will be doing them again this year.
To celebrate the Harvest Festival they each wrote a verse of a poem and performed it in front of the children and parents during the Harvest assembly.
Put together an assembly on the use of single use plastic bottles to try and encourage the children to only use refillable water bottles to help save our planet.
They also did an assembly asking children to collect plastic bottle tops so that they could create God’s eye using different coloured bottle tops. This is a work in progress but they are sure when it is complete it will look fabulous.
There are lots of exciting plans for the year ahead which they are looking forward to sharing with you over the coming year.
