Team Benedict

Meet Team Benedict

We are Team Benedict. As members of Team Benedict we are called to enhance the Religious Life of our school. Everyday we live by the gospel values and show others how they can do the same. Being a member of the Team Benedict can be a challenging but very rewarding task. Here are just a few of the tasks which you can find us completing at school:
  • leading whole school assemblies
  • establishing a prayer area within the school grounds
  • bringing new ideas to teachers to make our faith 'come alive'
  • supporting younger pupils with prayer at lunch time
  • taking a lead role in school masses
  • leading the Rosary during the months of May and October
  • leading activities during Lent and Advent

Crowning of Mary

May is the month of Mary and to celebrate this the whole school gathered on the playground to watch the crowning of Mary. TEAM Benedict were given the honour of being asked to read at the event.

Advent Prayer and Liturgy afternoon

Each class took part in an afternoon of Advent Prayer and Liturgy. Here are some of the photos from Year 3's afternoon.

Team Benedict's Advent Promise Tree

TEAM Benedict asked every child in the school to write their advent promise on a bauble to be put on our Christmas tree. We are very proud of all the children for how much thought went into their promises and the effort that went into decorating them.

Why do we not say Alleluia during Lent?

Alleluia means "Praise God". It is a special word that helps us joyfully proclaim that Jesus is risen. We are so happy that we want to sing, pray and shout the word Alleluia.
By not saying the word Alleluia for 40 days during Lent we will hopefully appreciate just how joyful the word is.

TEAM Benedict held an assembly on Shrove Tuesday for the whole school explaining this and put away the letters that spell Alleluia. We will get them out again after Easter and rejoice once more.

Advent Tree

TEAM Benedict spoke to each class about what an advent promise was and gave them all a bauble to write their own advent promise on.  Then TEAM Benedict decorated our tree with the promises.

We are very proud of our Advent Tree.

Remembrance Service

On Remembrance Sunday TEAM Benedict were invited to attend the Service at St Chad’s church. Two children were chosen to read out some of the names of the fallen soldiers and others laid a wreath on the cenotaph.

Remembrance Day Assembly

On Remembrance Day TEAM Benedict held an assembly for the whole school explaining to them what happened during the wars. As the children left the hall each child was given a toy soldier to help them remember the soldiers that died in the wars for us.

Collective Worship

To mark the month of Mary, in October TEAM Benedict led the collective worship in the hall. Every child in the school was given a set of Rosary Beads and were taught how to use them.

Celebrating Mary in the month of May

May is a very special time in the Catholic calendar as it marks the month of Mary. TEAM Benedict decided to spend some of their lunch times encouraging the children from Reception to year 6 to reflect with them and pray the Rosary. It was so lovely to see so many children taking part and being able to use our beautiful outdoor areas when the weather would allow.
February 2021

Thank you to one of our members of Team Benedict who has created this fantastic PowerPoint about Lent. It covers Shrove Tuesday, Ash Wednesday and tells us what Lent is.  :: Download the Powerpoint Presentation Here ::

December 2020

Team Benedict sent a video out to each class teaching them about the Jesse tree. Each class are sharing the relevant Bible story as part of their daily collective worship. After each collective worship, the symbol for that day is added to the tree. We are looking forward to seeing all the completed Jesse trees.
November 2020

Team Benedict have been teaching their classes about Remembrance Day. Due to Covid-19, they were unable to visit the other classes in school, but they were still keen for the other class teachers to share their PowerPoint.
October 2020

October is dedicated to the Holy Rosary, so the children in Team Benedict have been teaching their classes about the rosary. Unfortunately due to Covid-19, they have been unable to meet as a large group in the prayer garden, but they have still been making sure years 4, 5 and 6 are able to meet within their classrooms
