League Qualifiers Last week we went to Lacey Green School to take part in a series matches to decide which league we would be playing in this year. Despite not winning any matches we still managed to remain in the Premier League. This week we came back fighting and ended up winning three out of our four matches. (05.10.17)
League Tournament - Thursday 15th June Today the we took a Y2 and a Y1/2 football team to play in a tournament at Lacey Green School. Each team played four teams from other schools. Although there were no winners from the tournament everyone played well, played great as a team and most importantly everyone had fun.
League Tournament On 27th April the Y5/6 football team played together for the last time playing in a league tournament with other Wilmslow Schools. Although the team played so well in the first game, the ball just wouldn't go in the net and so it ended in a 0-0 draw. Therefore it went to penalties and unfortunately our two goals were saved by the goalkeeper, so we lost the game.
Not being a team that gives up we went into the 3rd and 4th place game determined to win. It was an extremely tense game. We soon went 1-0 up but the other team scored. We then went 2-1 up and then the other team scored! We then scored again and of course the other team scored soon after!
Thankfully we scored again and this time we managed to stop them scoring again. As a result the team came third and received well earned bronze medals.
Year 3/4 Tournament On 6th October we held a Y3/4 football tournament for the local schools. There was a girls group and two boys groups. In the girls group, St Benedict’s played really well, winning one of their games. Unfortunately they didn’t make it to the final, but they played well as a team. The final, which was between St Annes and Gorsey Bank, was won 6-1 by Gorsey Bank. Woman of the tournament went to Sophia Grainger. In the boys group St Benedict’s played incredibly well winning both their games, resulting in them reaching the finals. In the final they played against Ashdene, who had won in the other group. It was a tense game with a score of 1-1 after full time. After extra time the score was still 1-1, so it went to penalties. Sadly we lost out in the penalty shoot-out. Man of the match went to Kaelan Murphy.

Wilmslow Primary League On the 11th November, our girls football team took part in a football tournament at Wilmslow High School. It was a dark, damp afternoon, but our girls soon lit it up with their excellent spirit, attitude and good play.

It was very tough for all the teams,as the games were played to such a high standard.
However, our boys were absolutely fantastic, they played some excellent football, and behaved impeccably. We played 8 games in total, winning 5,drawing 1 and losing 2. This meant we finished with 16 points, finishing third in the standings overall.
The first night of the games was the first time our lads had played together as a team,so we're very much looking forward to seeing how the team progresses throughout the season.
Again we must thank Mrs Burwood for being such a good manager, supervising the team, and helping to ensure the team played well, whilst having lots of fun. The team consisted of : Daniel(Capt),Kanye,Ben,Alex,Ciaran,Thomas,Evan,Seb and Alex. Well done boys, and good luck for the rest of the season!

Football League Matches 15th October 2015 On the 15th October 2015, St Benedict’s football team participated in a tournament at Wilmslow high school. They played three matches, we were meant to have four matches (but Styal school didn’t come). In the first match, we played Lindow primary school and a few minutes in we went 1-0 down, but we didn’t give up. Just as it looked like we we’re going to lose St Benedicts pressure paid off and after a number of saves by Kieran in goal an attack down the left from Thomas resulted in a ball into the centre and we equalised.
After that we flew into another match against Alderley Edge primary school. We started of the match well and took a 1-0 lead.
Alex had a shot from long distance and hit the crossbar, but Daniel was there to get the rebound. Sadly, they scored a goal and it went to 1-1. Then when a draw looked inevitable, out of nowhere Evan picked up a loose ball in their half and shot from distance with such power the Alderley keeper could only glance into his own net. 2-1 victory to St Benedicts.
The final match was against St Anne’s Fulshaw. St Benedicts put in a great performance building on the previous two games. Kanye and Benjamin defended very well and made some great runs forward allowing the rest of the team to pass well and score two goals. An impressive performance from all.

Football Festival - 23rd September On the 23rd September we hosted a football festival for boys and girls in years 3 and 4, with schools from all over Wilmslow coming to play matches on our school field. All the matches were played in a fantastic spirit, and everyone had lots of fun.Lots of parents came to watch, and they were treated to plenty of refreshments, and the typical warm St Benedicts welcome! Our girls team were fantastic, they played their first ever games together as a team, and they really were amazing. They won both their games, against St Anne's and Gorsey Bank.We can't wait for the next festival/tournament to watch them play again!!
Our boys team were also fantastic, they played 5 games, winning 3 against Lacey Green,Gorsey Bank and Styal, and losing against Ashdene and Alderley Edge. The boys scored lots of goals, defended very well, and we're very excited to see how they progress as a team as they get older!

Wilmslow 5 a Side On Wednesday the school football team went to Lindow Primary School to compete in the Wilmslow Schools 5-a-side Football Tournament. When we arrived we were told we were in group 1, where we were up against Nether Alderley, Ashdene B team and Wilmslow Grange. Since Wilmslow Grange were unable to attend we played the other teams twice. We won our two games against Nether Alderely and drew and won the games against Ashdene. This put us top of group 1, so for the next round we were put in the group with the winners from the other groups. This meant we were up against, Gorsey Bank, Dean Oaks and Lindow. We won our game against Dean Oaks then lost against Lindow (the only game the team have lost all season). To be in with a chance of winning the trophy it was essential we won our last match against Gorsey Bank, which we did! Due to the fact that Dean Oaks had also won two games and lost one we had to play an extra game to decide an overall winner. It was a tense game, but thanks to Lewis scoring from a free kick we won 1-0. All the boys played so well as a team, resulting in them bringing home the trophy.
Although all the boys were fantastic and played brilliantly as a team, Man of the match for this tournament goes to Lewis Bostock who was a great team player, and played every match like he really wanted the win - a great role model.
What a way to end the season and a great final game for our Year 6 boys!
On Monday the 1st July the football team played in a Tournament organised by WFA. We won our first game 1-0, but lost the next game 2-0. We went on to win our next 2 matches, which put us through to the semi finals. Our semi final game was against Ashdene, and the boys held their own and played a strong game. At full time it was 0-0, so it went to Golden Goal. The boys fought hard and thanks to a goal from Jim Simms we went through to the final. In the final we were up against Gorsey Bank. Again the boys held their own and played like strong team. At full time it was again 0-0, and so went again to Golden Goal. Even though the boys fought hard Gorsey Bank eventually scored. The St Benedict's team played every game so well as a team, they did themselves proud. However a special mention must go to Jamie Holland, who played his first ever football match, and was an amazing goalkeeper, he was even noticed by the WFA who were running the tournament! It was Jamie's fantastic goalkeeping skills that took us through to the final. This was a perfect ending to the season.
My (and the WFA's) man of the matches goes to Jamie Holland, who was amazing as the team Goalkeeper.
U11 7-a-side Soccer Sevens Cheshire Finals On Thursday 31st January the school football team travelled to Crewe to compete in the Cheshire Finals of the ESFA Danone U11 7-a-side Small Schools Soccer Sevens! The team showed great character throughout, despite losing the first two games. However the boys started to play much better as a team as the second game progressed, thanks to the constant encouragement and support from the team captain, Dante. During this game goalkeeper Felix, saved a penalty. We went on to win a game, draw a game and we lost the last game. The team played well and although we didn't get through to the next round the boys did really well to get to the finals.
My Man of the Match went to Dante Vitale, for being an excellent team captain, warming up the team, encouraging and supporting each of his team members during every match.
